Description

The Facilities and Health and Safety Manager is responsible for ensuring that all site facilities and maintenance operations uphold the highest standards of health, safety, and legislative compliance.

This role involves managing and monitoring all plant systems (including refrigeration), overseeing safety documentation, and implementing proactive maintenance schedules.

The manager will foster a strong safety culture, ensure compliance with current and future legislation, and work closely with the operations management team.

Additionally, the role includes supervising contractors, controlling costs, and representing the facilities and safety team at management meetings to support strategic decision-making.

  • Ensure all site facilities meet health and safety legislative requirements, and that all maintenance is conducted in accordance with safety standards, procedures, and legal requirements.
  • Maintain and update all site facilities, safety and maintenance documentation, ensuring availability for internal and third-party audits.
  • Implement corrective actions resulting from audits promptly.
  • Manage and monitor refrigeration systems and associated equipment.
  • Advise on current and future health and safety legislation and their implications, ensuring compliance issues are resolved as needed.
  • Implement and regularly review the Health and Safety policy, arrangements, and instructions, ensuring outcomes are communicated effectively.
  • Ensure robust safety systems are in place and maintained.
  • Conduct health and safety risk assessments to eliminate or minimise risks where possible.
  • Consistently apply network policies and procedures.
  • Align all incidents with the company's reporting requirements, including US KPIs and Insurance reports.
  • Drive the company safety culture through recognized channels throughout the distribution center (DC).
  • Ensure all site services, including utilities, energy, building and plant maintenance, and environmental controls, are in place.
  • Implement and maintain a proactive Planned Preventative Maintenance Schedule.
  • Respond to breakdowns, repairs, and maintenance calls, using team expertise to minimize downtime.
  • Monitor and control costs to adhere to budgetary targets.
  • Supervise onsite contractors, ensuring they have the necessary licenses/permits and complete their work efficiently, safely, and to required standards.
  • Proactively manage relationships with contract companies, monitoring compliance with Service Level Agreements and resolving service issues.
  • Collaborate with the operations management team to identify and implement site facilities and safety requirements.
  • Represent the facilities and safety team at management meetings, providing updates and insights to support informed decision-making.

Profile

  • Proven experience of leading a team
  • Calm and precise under pressure
  • Exceptional eye for detail
  • Computer literate and have a good understanding of Microsoft office.
  • N.E.B.O.S.H General certificate
  • Membership to IWFM and/or IOSH (desirable)
  • Recognised electrical or mechanical qualification (desirable)
  • Numerical skills
  • Demonstrate a track record of achieving results.
  • Strong experience of Maintenance and Safety systems
  • Competent in managing a complex and technical supply chain

Job Offer

  • Salary £60,000 depending on experience
  • Hours - Monday to Friday, 08:30 - 17:00, with out-of-hours on-call support as part of the site services team structure, along with occasional weekend work.
