About the RoleWe are looking for a development-focused SQL DBA to join our IT Development team. In this role, you will provide essential support to our development teams by offering advice, guidance, and quality assurance on database-related tasks. A key part of the role will involve identifying and resolving non-performant SQL queries, ensuring smooth operations and high performance across our systems. Working closely with the Senior DBA, you will contribute to maintaining a reliable and secure SQL Server estate, ensuring it operates efficiently and securely. This is a fantastic opportunity for someone with a passion for databases and performance tuning to make a tangible impact.
Main Duties* Identify and resolve poorly performing SQL queries by restructuring them, adjusting indexes, or providing alternative solutions.* Advise the development team on best practices for writing SQL queries and ensuring efficient design.* Offer guidance to development teams when designing new systems from a SQL perspective.* Assist the Senior DBA in the management and maintenance of SQL Server databases and processes.* Ensure optimal system performance, availability, and security by proactively monitoring the system's health.* Troubleshoot issues in real-time, resolving them or providing recommendations for resolution.* Help implement and control SQL security policies in collaboration with the Head of Development.* Automate routine tasks, track system issues, and document any changes to ensure smooth operations.* Carry out scheduled maintenance tasks, including those requiring out-of-hours attention.
