MANUFACTURING ENGINEER - COMPOSITE/METALLIC - £45,000 / £55,000 - GREATER BLACKBURN - GROWING OPERATION

We are seeking a skilled and experienced Composites Manufacturing Engineer to join our client's team, where you will be integral to enhancing and refining the manufacturing processes for composite materials used in the aerospace industry. This role is crucial for ensuring that composite components are produced with maximum efficiency, minimal costs, and superior quality standards. The ideal candidate will possess a solid technical background in composite materials and process engineering, along with a deep understanding of aerospace production needs.

Key Responsibilities:

  • Develop and refine manufacturing processes for composite materials and components, ensuring alignment with engineering specifications and aerospace industry standards.
  • Collaborate with cross-functional teams, including design, engineering, and production, to improve manufacturing methods such as layup, curing, machining, and bonding.
  • Design and implement tooling, fixtures, and equipment to meet production goals and maintain quality standards.
  • Conduct process trials and validate new manufacturing techniques to ensure they meet cost, quality, and performance objectives.
  • Troubleshoot and resolve challenges in manufacturing processes, materials, and equipment related to composite production.
  • Lead continuous improvement initiatives to optimize manufacturing efficiency, reduce waste, and elevate product quality.
  • Work closely with quality assurance teams to ensure compliance with industry certifications such as AS9100 and other aerospace quality standards.
  • Maintain comprehensive documentation of manufacturing processes, including work instructions, process specs, and quality control procedures.
  • Keep up to date with emerging advancements in composite materials and manufacturing technologies, integrating innovative solutions into production processes.
  • Provide ongoing technical support and training to production teams on best practices for composite manufacturing.

Requirements:

  • Bachelor's degree in Mechanical Engineering, Materials Science, or a related discipline.
  • At least 3 years of experience in composite materials manufacturing, preferably within the aerospace sector.
  • Deep knowledge of composite materials, including carbon fiber, fiberglass, and advanced polymers.
  • Proficiency in CAD software for designing tooling and fixtures.
  • Familiarity with composite manufacturing techniques such as hand layup, automated fiber placement (AFP), resin transfer molding (RTM), and autoclave curing.
  • Understanding of aerospace quality standards, such as AS9100, NADCAP, and FAA regulations.
  • Strong analytical and problem-solving abilities to address complex manufacturing issues.
  • Excellent communication skills, with the ability to work collaboratively with multidisciplinary teams.
  • Ability to manage multiple projects and meet deadlines in a dynamic environment.
