Our well-established and prestigious engineering client is seeking Lead Design Engineer . They are the UK’s leading manufacturer and supplier in their sector. Their state-of-the-art head office is based in Daventry and houses the entire engineering process.

Working as part of the Design and Engineering team you will provide and develop high quality products - both new and existing from concept to introduction of new product design in line with the Company's project implementation plans.

Responsibilities:

  • Project manage the design activities of nominated projects.
  • Support all aspects of the design process, from the initial project brief including the design validation process, cost tracking and managing timing plans through to production.
  • Specification of materials and processes for manufacturing of components.
  • Preparation of exploded view drawings, schematics, and spare parts lists for new design products.
  • Preparation of design criteria/drawings for special application products to customer bespoke specifications.
  • Provide support, guidance and mentor the design engineering team members when required.
  • Liaising with regional offices and sales teams with product application and technical advice.
  • Continuously improve processes/systems and product designs where appropriate.
  • Managing the Engineering Change Order process.
  • Carry out any other duties as required and deemed appropriate.
  • Ensure compliance with company rules and all Health, Safety, Quality and Environmental requirements.

Essential Experience required:

  • Apprentice trained in an engineering background or similar equivalent practical training.
  • HNC/HND or degree in Mechanical/electrical engineering or similar relevant discipline.
  • Good working knowledge of and or qualification in electrical control circuits and application of electrical motors is required.
  • Experienced in design engineering, with sound knowledge and capability of designing, producing, and maintaining complete development and manufacturing drawings and documentation to Company standards.
  • Good project management skills are essential.
  • Excellent communications skills - able to liaise with different departments and external customers with the ability to communicate ideas, changes, and improvements to the various levels of the Company structure.
  • Analytical, investigative, and creative mind - always asking questions and seeking innovative but practical solutions.
  • Problem solving abilities with a very high level of attention to detail.

Desirable experience:

  • Experience of high-pressure components and systems, bolting torque and tension and/or electrical systems is advantageous.
  • A high level of computer skills, experience in 3D computer aided design is essential, using Solidworks (preferable).
  • Product data management (PDM / Vault) is advantageous.
  • Engineering standard awareness for machinery safety for both mechanical and electrical is advantageous.
