PCR & ELISA Technician

South Exeter, Starcross.

37 hours a week 9am to 5pm, Mon - Fri

Contract Until 01/10/2025

In this role you will be performing Bacteriology testing in support of DEFRA and the devolved government’s scanning surveillance policies.

Key Tasks:

  • Culture of different organisms (e.g. E. coli, Salmonella spp., Staph aureus, Brucella spp., Champylobacter spp., Mycoplasmas or TB) on specialist media isolated from a wide range of biological samples (e.g. faeces, tissues, swabs or food samples).
  • Using Enzyme-linked immunosorbent assay (ELISA) for the detection of antibodies
  • Performing polymerase chain reaction (PCR) assays for the detection and differentiation of Mycobacterium species
  • Use of specialist equipment such as PCR machines, liquid handling robots, plate readers, & centrifuges
  • Basic immunology including cell counting and immunoassay of cytokines.
  • Presentation of data in tabular or graphical formats for compilation in reports or papers.
  • Submission registration using LIMS software
  • Various supporting tasks to maintain laboratory testing activities.
  • Working to ISO17025

Essential Requirements:

  • Laboratory experience, experience of ELISA and PCR assays.
  • Experience in techniques related to general bacteriology/Microbiology.
  • Experience of working to quality standards (ideally ISO17025)
  • Good IT skills including Microsoft Office Software
