1:1 Teaching Assistant (Primary)

Long-Term Teachers is supporting a fantastic special educational needs (SEN) school in Dawlish that provides outstanding education and care for over 200 students aged 3 - 19 years. This inclusive and supportive environment is designed to help students with additional needs, including emotional and behavioural difficulties and complex learning needs.

Due to an increased need this academic year, our school is seeking dedicated and empathetic teaching assistants to work on a 1:1 basis. In this role, you will work closely with individual students, supporting their educational development and personal growth. Your role will be key in helping the students achieve their full potential, promoting a positive and nurturing learning environment.

Key responsibilities:

  • Provide tailored support to students

  • Assist in implementing personalised learning strategies and interventions

  • Help create a safe and engaging learning environment that supports both academic and personal development

  • Work collaboratively with teachers, SENCOs and other staff to support each student’s unique needs

  • Encourage student independence and confidence through structured activities and guidance

The ideal candidate will have:

  • Previous experience working with children or young people with SEN, particularly in a 1:1 or small group setting

  • A patient, compassionate and proactive attitude

  • Excellent communication skills, with the ability to build strong relationships with both students and staff

  • The ability to remain calm and adaptable in challenging situations

  • Relevant qualifications such as a level 2 or 3 teaching assistant certificate is desirable but not essential
