Long-Term Teachers have a unique opportunity to join one of our biggest special schools in Devon, providing outstanding educational care and support to students of all ages. Due to an increase in student numbers, the school is seeking a dedicated, passionate, patient and resilient teaching assistant to join their team in January.

As an all-through school supporting students throughout their educational journey, this unique opportunity is to work as a teaching assistant on their upper site with KS3 and KS4 students. You will predominantly be based in a KS4 class but there may be incidents where your assistance is needed elsewhere. Therefore, it is essential that you are flexible and able to adapt at short notice.

The school supports students with a range of special educational needs, including autism, ADHD, complex learning difficulties and social, emotional and mental health needs. Therefore, previous experience with additional needs is essential.

Key responsibilities:

  • Supporting the classroom teacher in managing the class and supporting students in focusing and engaging in their learning

  • Get the classroom ready for lessons

  • Supervise group activities or work with students on a 1:1 basis, depending on need

  • Provide a healthy and safe learning environment for children

  • Build meaningful and long-lasting relationships to help students excel both academically, socially and emotionally
