About the role:

Long-Term Teachers is delighted to offer an exciting position at one of Devon’s leading special schools. We are seeking an enthusiastic Higher Level Teaching Assistant to join a welcoming and supportive team, working on the school’s upper site with children aged 11+.

Nestled in a stunning campus surrounded by woodlands and close to the seaside, this school provides exceptional education for students aged 3 - 19 with autism and complex needs. The facilities are outstanding, including a forest school, woodland walk, bike trail, swimming pool and much more, offering a vibrant and dynamic environment where no two days are the same.

Key responsibilities:

  • Deliver engaging whole-class cover lessons in the absence of the class teacher or during PPA time

  • Collaborate with the teacher to personalise the curriculum and help students reach their full potential

  • Carry out general teaching assistant duties where lesson cover is not required

  • Assist with planning and preparation for upcoming lessons

  • Uphold the school’s policies and procedures, with a strong focus on safeguarding

  • Create and maintain a safe, positive and stimulating learning environment

  • Inspire students and foster a love for learning, tailored to their individual needs

About you:

The ideal candidate will bring:

  • A solid understanding of special educational needs (SEN) and effective strategies to support a diverse range of abilities

  • Excellent communication and teamwork skills

  • Patience, empathy and a genuine passion for supporting young people

  • A level 3 or 4 certificate in Teaching and Learning in Schools, Level 4 diploma in Childcare and Education, or equivalent qualifications in childcare or nursery work.
