Are you an experienced teaching assistant looking for a new challenge? Do you have a passion for supporting students with additional needs? Would you like to work in an incredibly supportive environment?

Long-Term Teachers is supporting a fantastic special educational needs school, based in Dawlish, providing outstanding education and care for 200 students aged 3-19. As a teaching assistant, you will play a pivotal role in nurturing young learners who have additional needs such as communication and interaction difficulties, learning needs and autism.

We have multiple roles available across their primary cohort - you will be placed according to your strengths, experiences and areas of expertise!

Our client is looking for an individual who is engaging, enthusiastic and willing to get 'stuck in’. You must have a proactive approach and be willing to engage with the students. Your role will be key in helping the students achieve their full potential, promoting a positive and nurturing learning environment.

Key responsibilities:

  • Provide tailored support to students

  • Assist in implementing personalised learning strategies and interventions

  • Help create a safe and engaging learning environment that supports both academic and personal development

  • Work collaboratively with teachers, SENCOs and other staff to support each student’s unique needs

  • Encourage student independence and confidence through structured activities and guidance

The ideal candidate will have:

  • Previous experience working with children or young people with SEN, particularly in a 1:1 or small group setting

  • A patient, compassionate and proactive attitude

  • Excellent communication skills, with the ability to build strong relationships with both students and staff

  • The ability to remain calm and adaptable in challenging situations

  • Relevant qualifications such as a level 2 or 3 teaching assistant certificate is desirable but not essential
