Head of Manufacturing

Location: Deeside, Flintshire, North Wales

Salary: £120k (negotiable for the right candidate)

We’re seeking an exceptional leader to join our client’s Senior Leadership Team as the Head of Manufacturing.

This role is pivotal in shaping the containerboard and pulp manufacturing systems at a cutting-edge facility employing over 400 people at start-up. Reporting to the General Manager, you’ll play a key part in driving operational excellence and influencing the site’s strategic direction.

Key Responsibilities

  • Lead the development of a world-class manufacturing site.
  • Drive compliance with environmental guidelines and consent limits.
  • Foster a robust safety culture aligned with all aspects of on-site safety.
  • Oversee all manufacturing functions, including pulp and paper production, with a focus on optimisation and efficiency.
  • Manage budgets, resources, and technical operations to achieve site targets.
  • Deliver quality products on time while adhering to lean manufacturing principles.
  • Develop, train, and coach a high-performing technical team to secure long-term workforce success.
  • Promote collaboration across all departments to create an efficient, world-class operation.
  • Take responsibility for succession planning, talent development, and team engagement.
  • Build strong relationships with internal stakeholders, suppliers, and contractors to ensure effective communication and collaboration.
  • Drive key performance indicators and enhance machine efficiency within budget.
  • Work closely with global partners and networks to meet strategic objectives.

About You

Education & Experience:

  • Degree-level qualification with 10+ years of manufacturing experience.
  • Advanced knowledge of modern paper-making technology.
  • Experience in commissioning/start-up projects is highly desirable.

Skills:

  • Proven leadership and team management skills, including coaching and mentoring.
  • IOSH/NEBOSH qualifications are essential.
  • Familiarity with lean manufacturing systems and tools.
  • Strong communication and organisational abilities.
  • Ability to thrive under pressure and meet deadlines.
