About the Role
We are seeking a dynamic and proactive Mechanical Technician to support manufacturing operations by ensuring the maintenance, repair, and optimisation of machinery and plant equipment. You will be a key member of the Engineering team, working within a diverse and flexible environment, contributing to the efficiency and reliability of production processes.
Key Responsibilities:
- Provide specialist engineering support to manufacturing production lines, including Brown Board Machine, Winder, OCC Recycling plant, CHP plant, Biofuel Power plant, Waste Wood processing plant, Effluent treatment plant, Tissue Machines, and support systems.
- Respond to plant breakdowns, diagnose faults, and ensure timely resolution to minimise downtime.
- Conduct root cause analysis, identify problems, and implement effective solutions.
- Perform routine inspections, corrective and preventative maintenance tasks.
- Install, overhaul, and maintain machine rolls and other heavy equipment.
- Repair and overhaul mechanical, hydraulic, and pneumatic components and assemblies to a high engineering standard.
Required Qualifications & Experience:
- Completed a 4+ year Apprenticeship in Mechanical Plant Maintenance or equivalent.
- Educated to HNC level or above in a relevant field.
- Strong communication skills, both written and verbal.
- Knowledge and experience in mechanical equipment, including pumps, gearboxes, screens, hydraulics, pneumatics, and mechanical seals.
- Experience with mobile equipment such as forklifts and M.E.W.P.s.
- Ability to use overhead cranes and demonstrate proficiency in slinging and lifting techniques.
- Welding experience (MIG, TIG, ARC) and knowledge of plasma cutting equipment
- Familiarity with laser alignment tools for parallel and offset alignments.
- Basic machining skills using lathes and milling machines.
- A self-motivated, team-oriented individual with a flexible and adaptable approach to work.
- Strong understanding of health and safety regulations.
Working Conditions:
- On-site role within the Mechanical Maintenance Team.
- Work involves both indoor and outdoor environments, with exposure to varying temperatures and weather conditions.
- Occasional UK and overseas travel may be required for training and development purposes.
