General dutiesThe support worker has two broad areas of work. First and foremost, their role is to support people in accordance with our values and Commitment. 
Secondly, their role involves carrying out activities required by the company as an organisation.
 
Responsibilities related to supporting people.Encourage the people we support to make their own choices about everyday things such as what to wear, what to do, what to eat, as well as bigger decisions such as where to live, how to spend their money or where to go on holiday. 
Enabling the people we support to be able to fulfil those choices, including structured activities which help each individual to develop their confidence and skills.
Enabling the people we support to meet their responsibilities such as paying bills, looking after their homes, being good neighbours and keeping in close contact with friends and family
Enabling the people we support to be involved in Company related activities such as being involved in training, recruitment of new staff and going to house meetings.   
Company Related ResponsibilitiesSupport workers will become involved in: • The induction and training of new staff and staff that join their normal place of work. • Play a part in making sure there is effective teamwork.• Maintain records• Developing ideas for improvements• Developing their own skills and abilities• Developing the skills of others • Helping the service to manage its budget.• Ensuring a quality service is provided and recorded. • Take a personal responsibility for monitoring standards and reporting any concerns.• Become involved in promotional activities.• Work positively to enhance and maintain the reputation of the Company with other organisations. 
Person Specification• Be able to carry out normal household tasks.• Have the ability to teach/coach skills.• Understand principles of respect and dignity • Have patience and empathy. • Be able to support a person with their intimate personal care with dignity and respect.• Have good communication skills which can be adapted to suit the situation• Be able to learn new methods of communicating.• Be able to speak on behalf of others as well as to a range of professional people within and outside of our clients company • Have good written skills and the ability to record events with empathy and meaning.• Have good IT skills to be able to access and maintain records • Have good observational skills. • Have the ability to work as part of a team• Have the ability to work to consistent standards.• Have the ability to make decisions and follow them through.• Be creative.• Be organised.• Be able to manage and record finances.• The ability to drive and the use of your own vehicle is essential for some our services.• Be committed to personal development and attend training as required. Qualifications, knowledge and experience• A knowledge of the local area• Previous experience of working in a care or support role is desired• Experience of working with people with learning disabilities is desired• Experience of using alternative methods of communication is desired.
