We are currently seeking a dedicated and compassionate 1:1 Teaching Assistant to join our team and work closely with a child with autism, starting in September.

Role Overview:

We are looking for a patient, empathetic, and skilled Teaching Assistant to provide 1:1 support to a child with autism. The successful candidate will play a crucial role in helping the child achieve their full potential both academically and socially. This position requires someone who is committed, reliable, and passionate about making a positive impact on the child's educational journey.

Key Responsibilities:

  • Provide individualized support to the child with autism in a classroom setting.
  • Assist in implementing and following individualised education plans (IEPs) tailored to the child's specific needs.
  • Foster a positive, inclusive, and supportive learning environment.
  • Help the child develop social skills, independence, and confidence.
  • Work closely with the class teacher, special education staff, and other professionals to ensure the child's needs are met.
  • Monitor and document the child's progress, providing regular feedback to the teacher and parents.
  • Adapt teaching materials and strategies to accommodate the child's learning style and needs.
  • Support the child during transitions and unstructured times to ensure a consistent and secure environment.

Requirements:

  • Previous experience working with children with autism or other special educational needs (SEN).
  • Relevant qualifications in education or childcare (e.g., CACHE Level 2 or 3, NVQ, or equivalent).
  • Strong communication and interpersonal skills.
  • Patience, empathy, and a genuine passion for supporting children with special needs.
  • Ability to work collaboratively as part of a team.
  • Understanding of autism spectrum disorder and strategies to support children with autism in a school setting.
  • Commitment to safeguarding and promoting the welfare of children.

Desirable:

  • Experience with implementing and following IEPs.
  • Training in specific autism interventions or strategies (e.g., TEACCH, PECS, ABA).
