An experienced Lead Development Engineer with at least 6 years of product development experience is needed to join our team at SET Limited, a leading electronics solution company based in Derby, on a full-time basis.

SET is a Derby-based SME; we are a leading solution provider for faults presenting in ageing and obsolete electronic and electro-mechanical assemblies, predominantly in the rail industry.
We cover a broad range of scales and technologies – from magnetic amplifiers to microprocessors and millivolts to megawatts. We are also an active developer of innovative rail traction solutions, working with major train OEMs on next-generation solutions.
About the Role
The role is to provide drive and coordination across a subset of SET's projects, particularly those related to the creation of electronics and mechatronics solutions.
You should, therefore, be highly organised, analytical and a good communicator. You should have a strong understanding of product development and, at a high level, be able to understand many aspects of electronics and mechatronics systems. Working with the team, you will ensure all relevant steps within the product development process are done well.
Key Responsibilities:
- Gathering requirements for electronic and mechatronic products and systems
- Developing designs and concepts for products and systems as part of a team of engineers
- Producing technical documentation: Requirements, specifications schematics, wiring diagrams, BOMs, test results etc
- Leading technical design reviews
- Conduct hands-on testing and troubleshooting
Required Experience:
- 6+ years of relevant product development experience in fields such as Control and sensing systems in mechatronic products, Power electronics vehicle integration, Product validation and customer acceptance of complex systems, Design for manufacturing, or DMEDI 6 Sigma product development projects
- Skilled in discussing concepts, gathering requirements, reviewing project experience, identifying risks and planning mitigation, etc
- Proven ability to organise, arrange, coordinate and, in some cases, lead project activities for small teams
- Multifunctional, committed and passionate engineer
- Bachelor’s or Master’s degree in Electronics / Engineering or a related field
