About the role:

As a Library Manager at HMP Sudbury, you will lead a dedicated team to deliver a responsive, customer-focused library service within a prison setting. Your role will involve overseeing and managing a team of staff and orderlies, ensuring a high standard of service delivery. You will foster a welcoming environment with excellent interpersonal skills, ensuring the library meets the diverse needs of its users.

This is a part-time position working 22 hours per week, with the following schedule:

Tuesday: 08:30-16:30, Wednesday: 09:00-13:00, Thursday: 09:30-16:30, Friday: 09:00-13:00

Key responsibilities include:

  • Oversee and manage a team of staff and orderlies, ensuring a high standard of service delivery.
  • Foster a welcoming environment with excellent interpersonal skills
  • Develop and implement creative ideas to enhance the library’s offerings and increase engagement.
  • Utilise computer packages and a library management system to provide comprehensive services.
  • Efficiently manage time and resources to achieve individual and team goals.
  • Maintain composure and effectiveness in a challenging, yet highly rewarding, environment.

You will have proven leadership capabilities with a deep understanding of the societal role of libraries. Your ability to inspire and motivate a team, fostering a collaborative and customer-focused atmosphere, will be essential. Exceptional communication skills, being friendly, approachable, and vigilant, are a must. Energetic and innovative, you will be eager to promote new ideas to enhance library relevance and usage. Proficiency in using various computer packages and library management systems is required. Strong time management and organisational skills, capable of prioritising tasks effectively, will be crucial. Additionally, you will be adept at handling the unique challenges of a prison environment with emotional stability and resilience.
