Job Description: Mechanical Project Supervisor

Purpose of the RoleThe Mechanical Project Supervisor will manage building and maintenance projects, providing technical specialist advice in Mechanical Building Services Engineering. The role ensures that all work is carried out efficiently, meeting performance specifications and quality standards, with a particular focus on water hygiene and legionella compliance.

Main Duties and ResponsibilitiesTechnical Specialist:

  • Provide expert advice in Building Services Engineering (mechanical).
  • Oversee compliance, servicing, and projects involving heating, hot water generation, hot and cold water services, air conditioning services, and commercial kitchens.
  • Manage quarterly water hygiene control tasks and ensure compliance with water hygiene and legionella regulations.

Project Management:

  • Oversee mechanical engineering services and construction project delivery.
  • Prepare reports, estimates, specifications, drawings, and works schedules for quotations or tendering.
  • Ensure projects are delivered to the required specification, quality, and budget.

Compliance and Quality Assurance:

  • Ensure all property and construction work complies with relevant statutory legislation, codes of practice, and professional guidance documents.
  • Conduct regular quality audits and address any areas where quality does not meet specified standards.
  • Ensure compliance with the most recent CDM regulations, assuming the Principal Designer Role as required.

Resource and Budget Management:

  • Lead programme planning, resource planning, budget planning, and ensure value for money.
  • Prepare, manage, and monitor project budgets, reporting regularly on financial positions.

Procurement and Contract Management:

  • Lead the preparation of property and construction frameworks and contracts.
  • Ensure compliance with procurement legislation and manage performance criteria for a range of contracts.

Communication and Coordination:

  • Ensure effective communication and coordination between all disciplines, parties, and teams involved in projects.
  • Represent the Service Manager at meetings and discussions as required.

Leadership:

  • Lead and manage multidisciplinary professionals and technical support staff.
  • Ensure continuity of service during the absence of the Service Manager.

Essential Qualifications and Experience

  • Extensive experience in construction and maintenance.
  • Knowledge and experience of applying ISO 55000 International Standards for Asset Management and BS 8544.
  • Proven application of effective project and programme management (Prince2 or similar).
  • Extensive experience in providing technical direction in construction, technology, and building engineering services.
  • Proven leadership in managing minor and major building works.
  • Experience of managing and ensuring building compliance according to regulations and good practice.
  • Confidence to act as the Head of Services and Director at meetings.
  • Experience of managing professional staff, including staff development and performance management.
  • Practical experience in staff selection and recruitment.
  • Sound knowledge of IT software applications, including Excel, Word, and PowerPoint.
  • Ability to monitor progress and meet performance targets.

Desirable Qualifications and Experience

  • Masters degree or post-graduate studies in a relevant field.
  • Full membership of a recognised professional organisation (e.g., MIET, MCIBSE, MIMECH).
  • Recognised qualification in the Construction (Design and Management) Regulations 2015.
  • Knowledge of the Equality Act 2010 and its application to the job.
