Reed Further Education are searching for a carpentry & joinery lecturer to provide short-term cover, delivering practical lessons to year 1 & 2 apprentices, as well as level 1-2 to full-time students. This role includes both teaching and administrative responsibilities.

Job Title: Carpentry and Joinery Lecturer

Position: Full-time 37 hours (24 hours teaching, 13 hours admin)

Role type: Temporary ongoing

Location: Derby

Salary: £30 - £40p/h including holiday pay (admin time is paid at £14 to £15p/h including holiday pay)

Day-to-day of the role:

  • Prepare and teach carpentry & joinery practical lessons to apprentices and full-time students.
  • Engage students in hands-on activities, ensuring they acquire the skills necessary for professional success in carpentry and joinery.
  • Manage classroom materials and workshop tools, ensuring they are available and in good condition for practical lessons.
  • Assess student progress through practical and theoretical evaluations.
  • Provide guidance and support to students, fostering a positive learning environment.
  • Complete administrative tasks related to teaching, including lesson planning and student performance tracking.

Required Skills & Qualifications:

  • Teaching qualification desirable: PGCE, certificate of education, AET etc.
  • Experience working with apprentices or students.
  • Level 3 or above qualification in carpentry, joinery or related subject.
  • Experience teaching on level 2 and 3 carpentry & joinery programmes.
  • Strong organisational and communication skills.
  • Ability to engage and inspire students.
  • Enhanced DBS on the update service or willingness to apply for another one through Reed.
