Exciting Opportunity for a Technical Author in Derby!

Position: Technical AuthorLocation: DerbyContract Duration: 2 months (with potential for extension)

Rates: £20 to £25 per hour (37-hour week) Ltd or PAYE available

Are you a skilled Technical Author with a knack for creating clear and concise instruction manuals? Do you thrive in an engineering environment and have a passion for technical writing? If so, we have the perfect opportunity for you!

What You’ll Do:

  • Collaborate with engineers to discuss and document technical matters.
  • Taking existing information, drawings, photos and manuals to create new or updated manuals and technical information packs.
  • Craft detailed instruction manuals within an engineering setting.  This includes screenshots and detailed information on utilising the machinery, general operator maintenance, and any relevant information relating to the safe operation of the equipment.
  • Provide regular updates, changes or issues, as well as collaborating with the engineering team to ensure the accuracy of the information.
  • Utilise your proficiency in Adobe InDesign and Illustrator to complete manuals.  Other software will be considered but all existing information has been created using Adobe.

What We’re Looking For:

  • Experience: Previous experience writing instruction manuals, preferably within the conveyors and product handling equipment or engineering sector (though not essential).
  • Skills: Excellent command of the English language, both technical and conversational, and an ability to extract information from the engineering team and others involved.  You’ll also need strong grammar and vocabulary skills, due to the technical nature of the product.
  • Software Proficiency: High proficiency in Adobe InDesign and Illustrator is highly desirable.
