First Achieve's Engineering Division are hiring for a Buyer to join their client in Derby who are an engineering company specialising in commercial and residential projects.
The successful candidate will purchase steel, timber and associated materials while developing processes to achieve increased efficiencies with the procurement process. You will be responsible for negotiating with suppliers to ensure the best price for products and services, to achieve the best possible profit margin whilst maintaining quality standards in terms of delivery performance and material quality.
Salary circa £40-45k
Key Duties and Responsibilities
- Assist the Procurement Manager with duties including the purchase of steel, cross laminated timber and glulam, to the company's exact business requirements, with preferred suppliers for specified materials.
- Produce and administer enquiries for appropriate materials requested by the Contracts and Estimating teams and provide quotations.
- Ensure goods are purchased at the most competitive rates, to meet budget requirements, including progress checking, liaising with suppliers, and keeping site informed of deliveries.
- Provide administrative support for the Purchasing team, including reviewing delivery dates from phasing schedules and updating orders, suppliers and site deliveries to suit.
- Check and pass invoices for purchases, ensuring costs on the invoices match the orders, and contact suppliers to request credits when needed.
- Liaise with the Procurement Manager to inform other departments of relevant information regarding changes in materials, major price movements, delivery lead times and individual supply situations.
- Keep contract files for purchasing up to date with copies of orders and requisitions, including any supporting documentation, order acknowledgements etc.
Experience Required
- Previous experience in a similar Purchasing role
- Previous experience buying and/or project costing
- Commercial awareness, both in terms of cost and impact on purchases and deliveries
- Good communication skills
- Strong understanding and ability to operate Microsoft Office software (Word/Excel)
- Able to work both independently and as part of a team, while prioritising workload, within a fast-paced environment
