Are you a Lead Planner or Planning Manager looking for your next role? A water sector leading solutions provider is seeking a Lead Planner to join their planning team in Derby on a permanent basis. This role combines hands-on project planning with leadership responsibilities, overseeing a local planning team.

The Lead Planner will work on a major framework and be responsible for managing one or more project plans, ensuring that the project team adheres to agreed timelines while addressing any deviations. In addition, this role will contribute to the continuous improvement of industry-leading planning processes within the business.


Key Responsibilities: Lead Planner

  • Develop and maintain detailed project plans across the full lifecycle.
  • Ensure project plans accurately reflect scope, resource requirements, and dependencies.
  • Identify risks and opportunities, monitor the critical path, and advise the delivery team on potential impacts.
  • Ensure compliance with company planning procedures such as implementation of project and activity codes, baseline management, production of programme narratives for client submission, and periodic schedule quality and integrity checks.
  • Lead and mentor a high-performing planning team, providing guidance and support.


Required Skills & Experience: Lead Planner

  • Extensive experience in planning within the water industry.
  • Proven ability to manage a medium-sized planning team.
  • Expert proficiency in Primavera P6.
  • Strong leadership skills in collaborative planning processes such as schedule development from inception to completion, development of claims programmes and contractual programme adjustments and effective communication of complex information to diverse stakeholders.
  • Ability to work under pressure and meet critical deadlines.
  • A proactive and innovative approach to problem-solving and team development.
  • A technical degree in a relevant field (preferred but not essential).
