Empowering Learning are working alongside a school in the Mickleover area (DE3) who are looking to appoint a sports & learning mentor to work across their KS2 cohort. The role is full time and initially on a fixed term contract starting October 2024. The role has the potential to become permanent for the right person.

The hours of work are 8:30-4:00 and working days are Monday to Friday.

The main duties within this role will be:

  • Working closely with pupils who present with challenging behaviour
  • Leading sports sessions at break and lunchtimes
  • Providing 1:1 support to children in class
  • Using sports as a way to mentor children
  • De-escalating situations where children have showed extreme behaviours
  • Leading academic interventions with children working below age expected levels
  • Assisting the class teacher with the set up of lessons
  • Liaising with the class teacher and school SENCO around progress of the pupils

The school are looking for someone who:

  • Holds a TA qualification or relevant degree
  • Holds at least one sports based qualification
  • Has had either TeamTeach training or MAPA Training (Desirable not essential)
  • Previously supported children with challenging behaviours
  • Has an understanding of supporting SEN pupils
  • Can inspire pupils to reach their full potential
