A college in Derby is seeking a Welding Assessor to join their team on a temporary basis, with the potential for the role to extend up to 6 months. The successful candidate will be teaching Levels 2 and 3, working 4 days per week for a total of 30 hours. This role involves assessing apprentices in their workplace, including conducting observations, setting and marking assignments, completing 12-week progress reviews, and preparing apprentices for their end-point assessments.

Day-to-day of the role:
  • Conduct assessments on apprentices in their workplace, ensuring a thorough evaluation of their skills and progress.
  • Observe apprentices during their tasks to provide real-time feedback and guidance.
  • Set and mark written assignments related to welding practices and theory.
  • Complete regular progress reviews every 12 weeks to monitor and report on apprentice development.
  • Prepare apprentices thoroughly for their end-point assessments, ensuring they meet the necessary standards and obtain required coding certificates.
Required Skills & Qualifications:
  • Minimum Level 2 qualification in English and Maths.
  • Minimum Level 3 qualification in Welding, Engineering, or an equivalent field.
  • Formal assessing qualification.
  • Familiarity with apprenticeship standards and requirements.
  • Possession of a current DBS on the update service or willingness to obtain one.
