A respected and expanding manufacturer in the personal care and cosmetics sector is seeking a skilled Development Chemist to join their innovative New Product Development (NPD) team. Specializing in a wide range of product categories—including bath care, skincare, haircare, tanning, baby care, and fragrances—this organization provides end-to-end services, from formulation to compliance. Accredited with BRCGS, ISO22716, RSPO, SEDEX, and Cosmos, they collaborate with major retailers and brands while holding exclusive distribution rights for several high-profile products.

Role Overview:

This position offers the opportunity to lead the formulation and development of new products, ensuring seamless progression from lab concept to commercial launch. The Development Chemist will work closely with clients and internal teams to create innovative, high-quality products that align with customer specifications and market demands

Key Responsibilities:

  • Researching and identifying new materials and technologies to support future product development.
  • Developing and formulating new product concepts to meet customer needs and expand product offerings.
  • Coordinating cross-functional activities with quality, commercial, packaging, and manufacturing teams.
  • Managing external product testing, ensuring performance, compliance, and adherence to launch timelines.
  • Preparing detailed technical documentation, including INCI lists, specifications, and batch sheets.
  • Advising clients on technical decisions and reviewing product artwork/claims for accuracy.
  • Supporting batch scale-up processes in collaboration with the production team.

The ideal candidate will have:

  • A degree in Chemistry or a related field, preferably in Cosmetic Science. Candidates with an SCS diploma and significant relevant experience are also encouraged to apply.
  • Experience in formulating beauty and household products, including natural/organic formulations meeting COSMOS standards.
  • Strong knowledge of cosmetic chemistry, including emulsions, surfactants, and sunscreens.
  • Familiarity with GMP, BRC, and COSMOS standards (desirable).
  • A track record of managing multiple projects and supporting high-volume product launches.
  • Exceptional communication skills and the ability to present concepts to clients and internal teams.
  • Proficiency in Microsoft Office, especially Excel.
  • A detail-oriented mindset, excellent organizational skills, and a passion for cosmetics.
