Contract Design Engineer - SolidWorks IR35 Status: Out

Hourly - Circa 40 DOE
Contract Term - 6 months
Location - In office, Wiltshire

We're excited to support a company with a global reputation for developing and manufacturing electromechanical intervention tools within the Oil & Gas industry for over two decades.

They're looking for a contract Design Engineer who is a competent 3D modeller using SolidWorks to join them on a 6-month fixed-term contract. The role involves creating 3D models and technical drawings, designing precision parts, collaborating on equipment upgrades, and ensuring designs meet production requirements through troubleshooting, documentation, and testing.

Responsibilities, but are not limited to

  • Develop detailed 3D models and 2D technical drawings using SolidWorks, ensuring compliance with design specifications, including the use of GD&T (Geometric Dimensioning and Tolerancing) to define design requirements
  • Design mechanical precision-machined parts, including milled and turned components, and collaborate with the engineering team to upgrade existing equipment and develop innovative solutions
  • Support project teams with design engineering, providing solutions to engineering challenges, and troubleshooting design issues
  • Ensure proper documentation of designs, drawings, and calculations, and manage design files within the company's PDM system to ensure accessibility and organisation of data
  • Liaise with manufacturing, production, and other departments to ensure designs are feasible for production and optimise designs for cost, performance, and manufacturability
  • Contribute to the evaluation and improvement of design processes and engineering methodologies
  • Perform regular quality checks to ensure designs meet manufacturing requirements and specifications, and support testing and validation processes to confirm design functionality

Experiences required

  • Proven experience in creating detailed 3D models and 2D technical drawings using SolidWorks, with strong knowledge of GD&T for defining design requirements
  • Solid experience designing mechanical precision-machined parts, including milled and turned components
  • Familiarity with managing design documentation, calculations, and files within a PDM system for organisation and accessibility
  • Ability to provide your own CAD-capable hardware is desirable
  • Ability to provide your own SolidWorks CAD licence is desirable
