We are now seeking a dynamic and commercially astute Managing Director to work with the owners and senior leadership team to lead the firm into the next phase of growth.

Assignment Details

The Managing Director will play a critical role in steering the business both operationally and strategically as well as delivering an element of client work themselves. This position will be split across key areas of responsibility, with an emphasis on business growth, leadership, and client management.

Key Responsibilities:

Client Work (50%)

  • Lead and manage a portfolio of key client accounts, providing high-quality financial advisory, tax, and accounting services.
  • Support clients with strategic guidance on business growth, tax planning, financial management, and M&A (Mergers and Acquisitions) opportunities.
  • Deliver expert advice on M&A deals, helping clients achieve their growth ambitions through acquisitions and business sales.

New Business Development (35%)

  • Identify and pursue new business opportunities to drive growth and increase turnover in line with the strategic growth plan
  • Play a key role in the firm's M&A growth strategy, including the identification, evaluation, and execution of potential acquisitions to expand the practice.
  • Build and nurture relationships with prospective clients through networking, referrals, and industry engagement.
  • Develop and implement growth strategies, including exploring new markets, service offerings, and partnerships.

3. Client Relationship Development (10%)

  • Foster long-term relationships with existing clients, ensuring client retention and satisfaction.
  • Proactively seek opportunities to cross-sell and upsell additional services, including advisory on M&A and business transactions.
  • Host client events, seminars, and workshops to reinforce relationships and provide value-added services.

4. Day-to-Day Operations and Team Leadership (5%)

  • Oversee the daily running of the business, ensuring operational efficiency and financial performance.
  • Lead, mentor, and inspire a team of accountancy professionals, fostering a culture of collaboration and high performance.
  • Ensure the practice is compliant with all regulatory standards and follows best practice in accountancy.

Skills Required

  • ACA/ACCA qualified or equivalent.
  • Proven experience in a leadership role within an accountancy practice, ideally with experience in growing a business.
  • Strong commercial acumen and a track record of delivering financial results.
  • Experience in Mergers & Acquisitions (M&A), both in advising clients and within a business context, is highly desirable.
  • Demonstrable history of building and maintaining client relationships.
  • Experience in business development and winning new clients.
  • Strong leadership skills with a high level of emotional intelligence (EQ).
  • Excellent communication and interpersonal skills, with the ability to inspire and lead a team.
