An exciting opportunity is available for a Product Mechanical Engineer to work on site at my client’s manufacturing facility in Melksham. The role will provide engineering support to the Technical Manager, Program Manager and Quality Manager.

The scope of the role is broad and varied, with a focus on sustaining the product manufacturing and continuous improvement, working closely with the production team to resolve any manufacturing issues, liaising with component suppliers to resolve issues and obsolescence management, sourcing new components and creating validation test plans, redesigning parts and updating technical drawings, and supporting the introduction of new products into production. Working for a global business, this position will be the engineering product specialist providing a vital link between design engineers, software engineers, production, quality, purchasing and supply chain.

Key responsibilities:

  • Triage faults or problems mechanical parts and assemblies as well as troubleshooting with electronics or software installations.
  • Work with the design authority team to resolve more complicated issues.
  • Be the key liaison with the quality team to provide technical information, conduct fault analysis, manage supplier technical issues including obsolescence and drawing updates.
  • Understand the technical specification of products and work with the purchasing team on alternative component sourcing and validation testing.
  • Work with the production/process/ continuous improvement engineers to maintain and improve the production process for existing and new products.
  • Design or source tools, hardware jigs etc that are needed for production.
  • Support the engineering design team on the development, testing and introduction of new accessories and products.
  • Be an integral part of a dynamic technical team, fostering innovation and excellence.
  • Clearly report and communicate on issues and solutions

Skills and experience required:

  • Bachelor’s or master’s degree in engineering or other related engineering field or comparable education and experience.
  • Evidence of a general engineering background within the development or production of a technical product (containing electronics and software)
  • Experience in resolving and troubleshooting production and manufacturing processes and drive continuous improvements.
  • Strong technical acumen with the desire to make a significant improvement to product and process
  • Able to communicate confidently at all levels
  • Clearly report and communicate on technical issues and solutions.
  • Ability to engage with multiple departments, effectively building and developing strong relationships with the production, quality, and supply chain teams.
  • Strong collaboration skills with an innovative and analytical approach to problem solving.
  • Provide cross functional engineering support to include mechanical as well as electronic and software support to an extent.
  • A can-do attitude with a willingness and desire to learn and develop both technical and soft skills.
  • Attention to detail should be an ingrained behaviour.
  • CAD design experience, ideally in SolidWorks.
