- Provide strategic direction and leadership to the Development Management service.
- Ensure effective determination of planning applications and enforcement matters.
- Manage stakeholder relationships, including elected members, local communities, and statutory bodies.
- Lead the cultural and organisational change within the service, embedding a customer-focused approach.
- Develop a robust performance framework to track and enhance service delivery.
- Oversee the service’s budget, income projections, and financial sustainability.
- Represent the council at regional and national planning events.
- Ensure the team is up to date with planning legislation and policy changes.
- Degree in Town Planning or a related field (or equivalent knowledge and experience).
- Postgraduate qualification and membership of a relevant professional body (e.g., RTPI).
- Proven experience in a senior planning role within local government.
- Strong leadership and management skills, with experience leading large teams.
- Expertise in managing major planning applications, appeals, and enforcement.
- Excellent stakeholder engagement and negotiation skills.
- Experience in budget management and service improvement.
