HSE Manager (Civil Engineering)
The HSE Manager plays a crucial role within our organisation, acting as a leader and a driving force for continual improvement, innovation, and change to achieve excellence in project delivery.
This position requires a balanced approach, combining hands-on involvement in on-site activities with strategic oversight of the Health, Safety, and Environmental (HSE) direction of the contracting business unit, in collaboration with the Group Head of HSE.
Key Responsibilities
路Develop innovative approaches to promote a strong health and safety culture and awareness.
路Work collaboratively with the wider HSE team, mentoring and upskilling to deliver exceptional results.
路Manage HSE resources to ensure optimal project coverage, efficiency, and output.
路Analyse business unit needs and contribute to the development of strategic HSE plans.
路Ensure compliance with the organisation's management system.
路Provide multisite support for assigned projects.
路Advise and monitor legal compliance and industry best practices across departments.
路Assist in the creation and development of Safe Systems of Work.
路Operate independently or within a team to meet project-specific requirements.
路Conduct training sessions and lead cultural campaigns to enhance awareness and compliance.
路Inspire and upskill colleagues, acting as a proactive leader within the organisation.
路Chair Health, Safety, and Environmental meetings, offering positive and forward-thinking contributions.
路Facilitate employee consultations and feedback initiatives.
路Provide guidance on compliance with CDM 2015 regulations.
路Establish and maintain effective monitoring and reporting systems to meet project and business needs.
路Track and report on KPI performance in alignment with business and contractual objectives.
路Collaborate with department heads, project personnel, and supply chain partners to promote HSE excellence.
路Conduct thorough investigations of accidents, incidents, and near-misses.
路Provide operational teams with HSE expertise and hands-on support to drive meaningful change.

About You
General Requirements
路NEBOSH qualification.
路Membership with IOSH.
路A full UK driving license.
路A minimum of 5 years of HSE experience.
路Strong knowledge and application of HSE legislation.
路Ability to prioritise and manage multisite coverage effectively.
路Excellent time management and organisational skills.
路Proficiency in Microsoft Word, Excel, and PowerPoint.
路A pragmatic problem solver with a detail-oriented mindset.
路A self-motivated professional eager to learn and develop.
路Ability to work independently and as part of a team.
路Clear and concise communication skills.
Desirable Qualifications
路Experience in highways projects.
路GradIOSH/CMIOSH status or working towards it.
路NVQ Level 5/6, Diploma, or Degree qualification.
