Environmental Advisor - Fusion Energy Sector

As an Environmental Advisor, you'll leverage your expertise to guide the environmental and sustainability direction of complex, large-scale projects. This role offers a unique opportunity to shape environmental strategies within one of the most forward-thinking sectors, ensuring that UKAEA meets its ambitious environmental goals in alignment with industry standards.

Key Responsibilities

Technical Expertise: Serve as the environmental discipline's expert, leading major programmes such as JET Decommissioning & Repurposing, and other engineering projects.

Environment & Sustainability Strategy: Define and communicate the environmental and sustainability strategy across senior leadership and within project teams.

Intelligent Customer Role: Define scoping and procurement strategies for outsourced environmental studies, ensuring alignment with UKAEA's objectives.

Environmental Integration: Embed environmental requirements into engineering projects through Best Available Techniques (BAT) workshops and Environmental Impact Identification (ENVID) planning.

Quality Control: Validate environmental studies, assess risks, and input into the performance evaluation of external service providers.

Resource and Stakeholder Management: Develop resource strategies, manage consultants, and facilitate cross-programme collaboration to maximize environmental resource use.

Standards and Training: Lead the integration of environmental initiatives with the UKAEA corporate ISO14001 Environmental Management System and upskill teams on environmental legislation and standards.

Qualifications and Experience

Education: Degree or equivalent in a relevant field; environmental or engineering qualifications preferred.
Industry Experience: Proven track record in environmental management for large, complex programmes, with expert knowledge of environmental and sustainability legislation.
Technical Skills: Skilled in embedding BAT
