Occupational Health Nurse

We are seeking an Occupational Health Nurse to provide specialist occupational health services aligned with our Workforce Strategy. This includes health surveillance, health screening, pre-employment assessments, counselling, and coordinating occupational physician and physiotherapy services. The role is integral to promoting health and wellbeing among the council’s workforce and a range of external organisations. This is a temporary role to start as soon as possible until February 2025 with the possibility to be extended and be able to work 3 to 4 days a week.
Day-to-day of the role:
- Provide occupational health services by offering advice, guidance, and support on work-related health matters, including suitability for employment, fitness to work, and rehabilitation.
- Contribute to the development, delivery, and evaluation of health promotion activities for staff, ensuring high quality and value for money services.
- Use clinical skills and knowledge to identify opportunities for service improvements and developments, promoting a proactive approach to health promotion and illness prevention.
- Provide clinical and professional advice to both clinical and non-clinical staff and foster collaborative partnerships with other services.
- Liaise with the multidisciplinary team to assist in planning and commissioning services.
- Deliver health surveillance services and evaluate the effectiveness of interventions.
- Lead and facilitate the development and implementation of workforce health and wellbeing service objectives as delegated.
- Participate in the supervision of clinical nursing practice, ensuring it is safe, effective, and evidence-based, and lead in the development of clinical standards in conjunction with the nurse manager.
Required Skills & Qualifications:
- Diploma or degree in Occupational Health Nursing (or equivalent) and a minimum of 3 years postgraduate experience. Open to consider RGN without the degree in OH.
- A broad range of occupational health nursing experience, including advising on complex issues within a customer-focused, unionised environment.
- A proven track record of achievement as an occupational health nurse practitioner.
- In-depth knowledge and the ability to interpret and advise on occupational health issues.
- Experience in developing occupational health solutions, strategies, practice, and procedures.
