Our client is a highly successful UKAS-accredited testing laboratory and currently seeking an experienced Microbiologist to join their customer-focused laboratory based in the south of Yorkshire.

Key Responsibilities:

The Senior Microbiologist will play a vital role in maintaining high laboratory standards, ensuring compliance with UKAS-accredited procedures, and continuously improving service quality.

Responsibilities include:

  • Supporting the Technical Manager in the operational management of the laboratory, including training and mentoring junior staff.
  • Planning and organising workloads for both themselves and other team members.
  • Conducting internal audits and audits at client sites.
  • Developing, writing, and validating new test procedures.
  • Generating technical reports for clients.
  • Performing laboratory-based testing and ensuring proficiency in all test methods.
  • Managing projects and testing schedules, coordinating tasks for themselves and the team.
  • Liaising with clients in a professional and positive manner.
  • Maintaining laboratory equipment in line with service plans and quality system requirements.
  • Sourcing and reviewing scientific literature to develop laboratory test methods.
  • Knowledge and Experience:
  • BSc, MSc in Microbiology or related discipline
  • Several years’ experience working in a microbiology, virology laboratory ·
  • Experience of supervising staff.
  • Good standard of verbal and written communication.
  • Able to work accurately under pressure.
  • Able to cope with rapid changes in priorities in order to satisfy clients’
  • requirements.
  • Able to work under minimal supervision, and to make day to day decisions within
  • working guidelines.
