The Role
We are seeking a talented production chemist to assist with the generation and scaleup of solid catalysts utilised in the business's new technology. The ideal candidate will also have experience in catalysts mounted on surface area enhancing materials.
Responsibilities
As part of the technical team, the Production Chemist's responsibilities will include:
* Follow production procedures to generate catalyst in the 10l scale in a wet lab.
* Assist in the scaleup process to go to the 100l and 1000l scale production.
* Conducting experiments to evaluate the performance of catalysts, including reaction rates, selectivity, and stability.
* Optimising catalyst formulations and structures to enhance catalytic activity.
* Analyse impurities in and side product reactions from catalysts generated.
* Collaborating with interdisciplinary teams to develop practical production methods for the developed catalyst.
* Ensuring compliance with safety regulations and maintaining a clean and organised laboratory workspace (e.g. risk assessment and COSHH).
* Assist with downstream separations to remove Carbon materials from the spend catalyst.
Qualifications, experience and skills
* A 2:1 Bachelor's degree in Chemistry.
* Minimum of 2 years of post-university experience in the development and production of catalysts or working in pyrolysis or related field.
* Experience with microwave energy-driven chemical reactions is highly desirable.
* Strong knowledge of catalysis principles, reaction mechanisms, and materials science, specifically focused on methane pyrolysis.
* Experience in operating at the kg and tonne scales.
* Familiarity with laboratory safety protocols and practices.
* Excellent problem-solving and analytical skills.
* Strong written and verbal communication skills to effectively communicate research findings.
* Ability to work independently as well as collaboratively in a team environment.
