Our client, a leading Groundworks & Civil Engineering contractor providing high quality services to main contractors and national house builders across the UK. Their services encompass earthworks, civil engineering, plot groundworks, roads & sewers, and a range of other construction solutions.

Due to the company's growth, they are seeking a Contracts Manager to join their team. The role will focus on managing the commercial and contractual aspects of projects, ensuring compliance and maximising profitability from tender through to final account.

Contracts Manager - Groundworks & Civil Engineering

Responsibilities

  • Oversee and manage contracts for groundworks and civil engineering projects, ensuring alignment with the company's commercial objectives and compliance with legal and industry standards.
  • Handle contract negotiation, drafting, and administration with clients and subcontractors.
  • Monitor and manage contract changes, variations, and claims, ensuring proper documentation and timely resolutions.
  • Collaborate with internal teams (estimating, quantity surveying, project management) to ensure smooth project delivery and contractual compliance.
  • Ensure timely completion of valuations, applications for payments, and submission of final accounts.
  • Provide advice on contract disputes and oversee resolution processes.
  • Ensure financial and contractual performance is in line with project objectives, tracking budgets, cash flow, and profitability.
  • Manage risk through effective contract administration, safeguarding the company's financial position.
  • Regularly liaise with clients, subcontractors, and internal teams to ensure project goals are met and contractual obligations are fulfilled.
  • Prepare and present financial and commercial reports to senior management, highlighting risks, opportunities, and key project metrics.

Contracts Manager - Groundworks & Civil Engineering

Requirements

  • Proven experience in a similar Contracts Manager role within the groundworks or civil engineering sectors.
  • Strong knowledge of contract law, construction contracts (JCT, NEC), and standard forms of contract.
  • Excellent understanding of the groundworks and civil engineering industry, including processes, materials, and costs.
  • Proficiency in contract management software and the Microsoft Office suite.
  • Strong negotiation and communication skills, with a track record of managing client and subcontractor relationships.
  • Experience in handling contract disputes and claims.
  • Relevant qualifications in Quantity Surveying, Construction Management, Contract Law, or Civil Engineering (HND/BSc preferred).
