Description
the Head of Internal Controls over Financial Reporting is responsible for;
- Building the Financial Control Team to create a Centre of Excellence working with the Financial Accounting, Management Accounting, the Shared Services team & broader Finance.
- Lead on the development of policies and procedures to mitigate risks and achieve reliable financial reporting and protection of Company assets.
- Oversee the ICFR Program, including the design & operating effectiveness of controls.
- Lead on the remediation of deficiencies identified. This will involve implementing new controls, enhancing existing controls and redesigning some processes to mitigate the risk of material misstatement.
- Key leadership role in Corporate Responsibility; establish a cadence and agenda of key control items and steps to resolution with visibility of key topics.
- Lead the ICOFR Programme outwardly into the business; working with stakeholders to influence financial control ownership and responsibility. Represent the ICOFR program in the broader Internal Controls Steerco and collaborate effectively with other controls work-streams.
- Line management and leadership of the Financial Controls Programme team; directing the prioritisation of the end to end processes and work on controls that underpin the Group Financial Control Environment.
- Accountable for the annual risk assessment performed by the ICOFR Lead and advise on the key processes that are in scope for ICOFR and the timetable to stand-up/stand-down any scope' changes with supporting detailed documentation of risks and controls.
Profile
A successful Head of Internal Controls over Financial Reporting should have:
- Ability to set the vision for financial control across the business and influence others to deliver inline with the agreed vision.
- Strong financial controls background and experience of baselining and improving the financial control environment in a large company preferably in a UK listed environment.
- Excellent communication and interpersonal skills; relationship-building and interdepartmental working.
- Excellent team building & coaching skills; experience of mobilising and engaging virtual and matrix teams to deliver consistent high performance.
- High quality, clear written communications (board papers).
- Change leadership qualities; pro-actively direct and lead others to deliver change.
- Collaborative team player orientation towards work relationships, strong culture awareness
- Ability to interpret regulatory/technical requirements and develop robust practical implementation plans
- Willingness to engage with a wide variety of activities and projects
- ACA/ACCA/CIMA Qualification
- Min. 5 years PQE
- Some experience of the external/PLC environment.
