Estimator / Buyer

White Label are on the lookout for an experienced fabrication Estimator or Buyer with a strong technical understanding of engineering drawings. The role involves sourcing, purchasing, and managing deliveries of fabricated steelwork, conveyor components, and structural steel for projects. Candidates should have hands-on experience in fabrication or mechanical engineering and be confident in interpreting complex engineering drawings.

Key Responsibilities of the Estimator / Buyer:

• Break down engineering drawings into comprehensive lists of materials and specifications, identifying exactly what is needed for procurement and fabrication.
• Source qualified suppliers for fabricated components, including options for galvanising or painting, and obtain competitive quotes to meet project requirements.
• Prepare purchase orders, verify supplier quotations, and organise documentation to ensure quality and compliance with project standards.
• Manage transport and logistics to ensure timely delivery of materials to the site, including any offsite finishing such as painting or galvanising.
• Ensure all procurement activities align with project budgets and timelines, maintaining cost control and accuracy in reporting.
• Build and maintain strong working relationships with small-to-medium fabrication suppliers, ensuring consistent quality and on-time deliveries.

Qualifications and Skills of the Estimator / Buyer:

• Minimum of 3-5 years in a fabrication-focused role, ideally with combined experience in estimating and buying within an engineering or manufacturing environment.
• Apprentice-trained or hands-on experience in fabrication or mechanical engineering, with a deep understanding of engineering drawings and how to interpret them accurately.
• Proven ability to manage budgets, prioritise work, and meet tight deadlines, especially in a fast-paced setting.
• Strong communication skills and customer service orientation to build effective relationships with suppliers, colleagues, and clients.
• Familiarity with Microsoft 365 Suite and Sage for order processing and invoicing.
