Doncaster School for the Deaf is one of the oldest d/Deaf schools in the country, providing education for d/Deaf pupils from 4 to 19 years and currently has 37 young people on roll. The school is managed by Doncaster Deaf Trust. The school has developed and improved in recent years which is reflected in the Good Ofsted inspection in September 2023. It is now recruiting for a new Headteacher to continue that improvement and to shape the direction, future and strategy of the school.

The school is part of Doncaster Deaf Trust alongside a residential Childrenā€™s home, Little Learners Day Nursery, Communication Specialist College Doncaster and Aspire to Be (Employability Services). The vision is clear ā€“ to be a national leader achieving outstanding outcomes that improves lives of children, young people and adults who are d/Deaf, Hearing Impaired, have Communication Difficulties, Autism or Learning Difficulties and/or Disabilities. As a charity, the purpose is to advance education, training and care for the people it serves Your contribution will be vital and instrumental in ensuring the school plays a key part in that success. Partnership working and collaboration are key to the next stage of strategic development and the new Headteacher must be a skilled communicator who shares these core values.

You will be joining the School and Trust at a crucial time as good progress is being made on the current strategic plan and it is entering an exciting phase in the development of the next plan that will take it to 2030. Building on strong foundations, key priorities include partnership working, business planning, continuous improvement, developing innovation and developing people. The school is fundamental to ensuring the delivery of these plans and ensuring high quality education, support and outcomes is of paramount importance to help the school grow and maintain standards. You will be joining an experienced and high performing Trust wide senior leadership group who will also support your personal development.

We are looking to appoint an inspirational Headteacher who will have a tangible impact on the school and play a key role in strengthening delivery and outcomes across the provision. Candidates should be able to demonstrate recent, successful, and sustained impact as a senior leader in a SEND school although previous experience of working in a school or provision for the d/Deaf is not a requirement of the role. You will have a positive attitude which will inspire, enthuse and motivate students, staff and the wider school community. You must be confident, approachable and have the skills to work collaboratively, build effective teams and also to be a present and visible leader who leads by example.
