Role Overview:
As a Graduate Teaching Assistant (GRAD TA), you will work closely with teachers and students, supporting learning across a variety of subjects. You will gain first-hand classroom experience, develop essential teaching skills and support students academically and pastorally. This is an excellent opportunity to enhance your communication, leadership and mentoring abilities before pursuing a PGCE or teacher training programme.
Key Responsibilities:
- Support teachers in delivering engaging lessons across various subjects at Key Stages 3 and 4.
- Work with small groups or individual students, assisting with their academic progress.
- Provide classroom support, helping to manage behaviour and ensure a positive learning environment.
- Assist students with special educational needs (SEN), ensuring they receive tailored support.
- Deliver intervention sessions to help students who need additional learning support.
- Foster a positive and inclusive learning atmosphere, motivating students to achieve their best.
- Support teachers with lesson planning, resource preparation and marking when required.
Requirements:
- A degree qualification (any subject specialism within secondary education).
- A genuine interest in education and supporting young people’s learning.
- Strong communication and interpersonal skills, with the ability to engage and motivate students.
- Ability to work collaboratively with teachers and other school staff.
- A positive, proactive and adaptable approach to working in a school environment.
- Previous experience in mentoring, tutoring, coaching, or working with young people is desirable but not essential.
- Have an updated CV (covering the last ten years barring any unexplained gaps) and an enhanced DBS registered to the Update Service (or be willing to apply for one).
