Doncaster Council is seeking a Street Scene Operative to join our multi-disciplinary team. This role involves carrying out grounds maintenance and cleansing duties throughout the borough, ensuring that streets and public areas are maintained to high standards. This position is crucial for enhancing the neighbourhoods and communities within Doncaster.

Day-to-day of the role:
  • Maintain streets and public areas according to their needs and designed maintenance and improvement programmes, ensuring service standards are met for the benefit of Doncaster residents.
  • Perform general duties outdoors in all weather conditions, undertaking tasks appropriate to seasonal working arrangements and any emergency call-out situations.
  • Act as a service request point of contact for customers, handling enquiries directly and maintaining good customer relationships. Represent Doncaster Council professionally as an ambassador.
  • Undertake additional multi-skilled tasks within other service areas as required to meet service demands, ensuring a year-round service is maintained.
  • Work safely using appropriate equipment, including mobile technology, and report any unsafe conditions or occurrences to the line manager, including activities, accidents, hazards, and defects in vehicles, machinery, and equipment.
  • Provide professional support and share good practice within the team.
  • Participate in the Council's standby arrangements, including winter maintenance and 24/7 standby cover. Take an active role in emergency situations, supporting, advising, and assisting the Emergency Planning Team.
Required Skills & Qualifications:
  • Knowledge of health and safety legislation relevant to the role.
  • Experience with a variety of horticultural and street cleansing equipment.
  • Full driving licence.
  • Proficient use of IT systems.
  • Experience in customer-facing service delivery.
  • Willingness to undertake further training to enhance skills within the role.
