Our client, a local authority in South Yorkshire, is seeking an Interim Waste Optimisation Project Manager to lead a key waste management project focused on optimising routes and rounds. This is a crucial role that will drive efficiency, improve service delivery, and ensure compliance with Council and Government objectives.

Key Responsibilities

  • Lead the end-to-end project management of waste route and round optimisation, ensuring effective risk management, workforce engagement, and smooth implementation.
  • Collaborate with key stakeholders, including frontline teams, senior officers, and external partners, to successfully deliver project outcomes.
  • Oversee project budgets, ensuring financial monitoring and reporting are carried out effectively.
  • Conduct feasibility studies, develop business cases, and produce reports with data-driven insights.
  • Manage procurement processes, including tendering for external suppliers where necessary.
  • Ensure rigorous testing and assurance processes are in place before implementation.
  • Provide high-quality reports and communication to senior leadership teams.

About You

  • Strong experience in waste management within a local authority or similar public sector environment.
  • Proven ability to develop, manage, and implement complex projects, particularly within frontline services.
  • Experience in financial monitoring and managing project budgets.
  • Strong stakeholder engagement skills, with experience in workforce management and change implementation.
  • Ability to work under pressure, prioritise workloads, and meet project deadlines.
  • Political awareness and understanding of Council policy and governance structures.
