Harte Recruitment Consulting are looking for an Assistant Estimator to join our clients Pre-Development Team at their Head Office in Doncaster. As Assistant Estimator, you will play a key role in supporting the Pre-Development Team by providing detailed cost estimates for a variety of proposed residential developments. Working closely with the Pre-Construction Director and senior estimator, you will help ensure competitive pricing through collaboration with the commercial team and subcontractors. Your estimates will be used to inform acquisition and development strategies, contributing to the successful planning and execution of projects.

The Role:

  • Prepare detailed take-offs and pricing at the pre-development appraisal stage
  • Review design, tender documents, and contract conditions for risk analysis
  • Participate in cost adjudication meetings and contribute to tender strategy decisions
  • Obtain competitive quotes from subcontractors and suppliers for tender preparation
  • Produce accurate development cost estimates using current price data
  • Manage time and resources effectively to meet strict procedural deadlines
  • Maintain up-to-date knowledge of pricing and building regulations
  • Maintain house type standard build cost and development cost budgets
  • Liaise with internal and external teams (design, engineering, commercial) to ensure cost-effective project solutions
  • Provide timely, accurate quotations and tenders

The Person:

  • Essential:
    • Construction degree or equivalent
    • Strong understanding of housebuilding methods, technologies, and technical drawings
    • Proficient in Microsoft Excel and other IT tools (Microsoft Office Suite)
    • Financial and commercial awareness, with accurate cost control and reporting skills
    • Ability to work independently and as part of a team
    • Excellent time management and organizational skills
  • Desirable:
    • Familiarity with Bluebeam Software and AutoCAD
    • Strong negotiation skills and industry contacts
    • Knowledge of building regulations and risk assessment for projects
    • Experience in residential development site works and packages
    • CSCS Card
