Vision for Education is looking to appoint a Higher-Level Teaching Assistant (HLTA) to join a SEND school based in Doncaster on a long-term basis

The role 

The role of a Higher-Level Teaching Assistant is to complement the work of teachers by taking responsibility for the organisation and support of agreed learning activities for classes where all pupils have special educational needs. Working with children and young people who have a range of significant and complex SEND for example those with autism (ASC), social, emotional and mental health difficulties (SEMH), profound and multiple learning difficulties (PMLD), severe learning difficulties (SLD) or moderate learning difficulties (MLD) including in some instances, those with life limiting conditions and those who exhibit challenging behaviour.

The primary focus is to do specified work with individuals, groups and whole classes with the direction and supervision of a qualified teacher; To work both independently and collaboratively with teaching staff in the whole planning cycle and the management/preparation of resources. Also to deliver learning to individuals, small groups and whole classes as and when required; To provide support for pupils, the teacher and the school in order to raise standards of achievement for all, by utilising advanced levels of knowledge and skills when assisting with planning, monitoring, assessing and managing classes; To encourage pupils to become independent learners, to provide support for their welfare, and to support the inclusion of pupils in all aspects of school life.

This special school based in Doncaster educates children and young adults aged 3-19 years old with severe and complex needs. The school was recently rated ‘Good’ by Ofsted.

Requirements 

To be considered for the Higher-Level Teaching Assistant (HLTA) position, you will: 

  • Hold a the HLTA qualification or be degree qualified.  
  • Have experience of working as a Higher-Level Teaching Assistant in a SEND setting or in a mainstream setting with SEND children. 
  • Be experienced in working with smaller nurture groups to boost attainment. 
  • Have a genuine desire to become part of a committed team of school staff. 
  • Ideally have experience delivering lessons. 
  • An enhanced DBS registered to the update service or the willingness to apply for one
  • The desire to work with young people with special educational needs
  • The ability to work on initiative and proactively
  • Previous experience of working with behaviours that challenge is highly desirable
