Floating Support Worker (Doncaster)

We are seeking a dedicated and compassionate Floating Support Worker to join our team, providing essential support individuals in the Doncaster area. The successful candidate will be responsible for offering support in both school and community settings, ensuring the well-being and development of young people. This role involves flexible working hours, including part-time shifts, and provides a great opportunity to make a positive impact on the lives of young people facing a range of challenges. We have multiple children requiring 5+ hours support per week, so the potential to do multiple of these shifts.

Key Responsibilities:

  • Provide 1:1 or 2:1 support for young people, ensuring their emotional, social, and practical needs are met in both school and community settings.
  • Support the development of daily living skills, including self-care routines, communication, and independence.
  • Help manage and de-escalate challenging behaviour, using positive behaviour strategies and techniques.
  • Assist with building emotional resilience and social skills, supporting young people in managing relationships with peers.
  • Build a trusting and positive relationship with each young person, ensuring they feel safe and supported.
  • Follow individual care plans and contribute to regular assessments to monitor progress.
  • Offer emotional support and encouragement, especially when young people are dealing with frustration, anxiety, or other mental health issues.
  • Ensure all communication is clear and sensitive, respecting each individual's preferred communication style.

Essential Requirements:

  • Experience in supporting young people with complex needs, including autism, ADHD, SEMH, anxiety, and trauma would be desirable.
  • Knowledge of behaviour management techniques, particularly for de-escalation and emotional regulation.
  • Ability to work independently and as part of a team.
  • Patience, empathy, and a non-judgemental approach to care.
  • Ability to build rapport and establish trust with young people.
  • Flexibility and a willingness to work according to the young people's needs, including part-time and varying hours.
  • A compassionate approach to supporting young people with emotional and social difficulties.

Desirable Qualifications:

  • Experience in working with children and young people with additional needs.
  • Training in behaviour management, autism, or mental health support.
  • Understanding of holistic therapy practices or trauma-informed care.
