Brook Street Social Care is seeking dedicated and compassionate Residential Support Workers for a rewarding opportunity with one of our valued clients. As a Residential Support Worker, you will be instrumental in fostering a safe, supportive, and empowering environment for young residents in their care.

Key Responsibilities:

  • Maintain and promote positive childcare practices in line with the aims and objectives of client's services
  • Provide a safe, warm, and supportive environment for young residents.
  • Adhere to policies, equal opportunities guidelines, and company rules.
  • Foster and encourage appropriate contact between residents and their families.
  • Promote and encourage learning and engage young people in educational activities.
  • Develop a responsible attitude in residents towards the environment, furnishings, and equipment.
  • Transport and/or accompany young people on outdoor activities when required.
  • Report missing persons to the Police, local authority, and those with parental responsibility.
  • Act as a key worker for young people, maintaining accurate paperwork, updating care plans, risk assessments, and liaising with social workers and other professionals.
  • Maintain high levels of cleanliness throughout the establishment.
  • Carry out household duties, including shopping, cleaning, cooking, and maintaining the garden areas.
  • Accept responsibility for monies as required for necessary duties.
  • Maintain a regular system of recording information for each young person and assist in the provision of reports.
  • Deal with telephone inquiries, gathering information and passing matters to senior staff when necessary.
  • Undertake administrative duties, including logbooks, handover sheets, and incident reports.
  • Be aware of Health and Safety policies and food hygiene regulations.
  • Be aware of fire prevention regulations and participate in fire drills.
  • Be an active member of a team of residential childcare workers, involved in the planning and organization of the living environment for each young person.
  • Ensure that children and young people receive necessary medical attention and that regulations regarding drugs on the premises are followed.
  • Provide a positive working role model for colleagues and residents, with reference to equal opportunities and the recognition of each person's unique needs.
  • Demonstrate sensitivity and appropriate assertiveness in a pressured environment.
  • Carry out duties in a mature and responsible manner, seeking support as necessary.
  • Be available on an on-call basis to cover staff shortages and/or operational emergencies.
  • Work in other locations as required from time to time.
  • Physically intervene if a resident's behaviour is dangerous, in accordance with procedural guidance and legislation.
  • Perform any other duties as directed by senior staff.

EXPERIENCE AND QUALIFICATIONS

Due to the specialised nature of this work candidates should be able to demonstrate their understanding of the needs of adolescents, particularly those in care. A full manual driving licence is required, as you will be required to drive the young people to appointments, home visits, local authorities etc. Minimum requirement of level 3 CQF or equivalent in childcare
