Social Worker - Children in Care

We are seeking a dedicated Social Worker to join our Children in Care service in Doncaster. This is a pivotal role in a centralised team, covering the entire Doncaster area, where you will be instrumental in improving services for children, young people, and families. The role requires a child-centred approach and the ability to build strong professional relationships with children, young people, and families.

Day-to-day of the role:
  • Carry a caseload of children in care, ensuring care plans are robust and cater to the needs of the children.
  • Undertake statutory visits, chair meetings related to children’s care plans, and provide support, advice, and guidance to carers.
  • Engage in assessments and section 47 enquiries, identifying levels and types of risk or need based on documented evidence.
  • Record and analyse information gathered during social care assessments in line with policy and best practice principles.
  • Practice with a clear understanding of relevant legislative principles, up-to-date knowledge of research, case law, and best practice guidance.
  • Engage with children, their carers, and families to understand their circumstances, wishes, and feelings, directing longer-term interventions focused on the best interests of the child.
  • Prepare court statements and reports as required, and assist in the provision of social care advice and interventions across Doncaster Council and all agencies.
Required Skills & Qualifications:
  • Professional Social Work Qualification at Degree level.
  • Registration with Social Work England.
  • Experience working in a childcare environment or equivalent work with vulnerable groups.
  • Good knowledge of relevant legislation, statutory guidance, and social work theory.
  • Proficiency in IT and excellent communication skills, especially with children.
  • Ability to work independently, make sound decisions, and be well organised.
