Skills for Life Tutor (Part-Time)

Location: Doncaster

Salary: £14,526.72 per annum

Hours: 16 hours per week (Tuesdays and Wednesdays)

The College seeks to employ a Skills for Life Tutor to join its enthusiastic, vibrant, and hardworking team. As one of only two specialist horse racing colleges in the UK, this third sector provider delivers training for people in both racing and other equine industries.

The Role

Tutors are responsible for preparing and delivering high quality English and Maths lessons, keeping records updated and providing prompt feedback on learner progress.

Key Responsibilities:

Curriculum Delivery

  • To deliver guided learning hours (GLH) at the National Horseracing College for Foundation and Doncaster Equine College Learners, and occasionally in the workplace.
  • To conduct initial assessments and diagnostics to identify learner needs.
  • To research and prepare learning materials.
  • To assess learners in accordance with awarding body specifications.
  • To contribute to the internal verification of assessments.
  • To ensure the efficient use of resources.
  • To maintain records of attendance and registers as required.
  • To maintain records on learner progress and attainment ie for the particular units/learning outcomes.

Learner Support

  • To provide pre-entry advice and guidance to potential learners prior to enrolment.
  • To select and co-ordinate the induction of learners.
  • To provide personal tutorial support, pastoral care and guidance including the completion/maintenance of any associated administrative documentation.
  • To ensure good progress and attendance of learners.
  • To support and encourage learners to access any additional support as required.
  • To conduct regular learner review exercises and report findings accordingly.
  • To apply the learner disciplinary process when necessary.
  • To provide learner support in equine theory lessons where necessary.

Programme Management

  • To organise and administer programmes including the preparation and maintenance of programme management file/s and inputting relevant data onto PICs and / or Smart Assessor.
  • To attend regular team meetings to ensure the integration of team activities.
  • To ensure student views are considered in programme development.
  • To undertake regular programme self assessment and review exercises.
  • To provide the Lead Skills for Life Tutor with necessary information on statistics.
  • To assist with the publicity and promotion of programmes.
  • To contribute to the continuous development of the curriculum area ie improving quality standards, adapting provision to meet changing needs etc.
  • To encourage the whole organisation approach to Skills for Life.

Professional

  • To contribute to continuous improvement and the sharing of good practice across the college.
  • To participate in formal and informal professional development activities in order to enhance contribution.
  • To contribute to the maintenance of a positive and motivating learning environment.
  • To contribute to the Education Inspection Framework.
  • To contribute to train and support staff at the National Horseracing College to deliver Functional Skills training.

Skills and Qualifications

  • Must possess an initial teaching qualification such as a PGCE, DTTLS or Level 5 DET.
  • A minimum of A-Level English (or equivalent)
  • GCSE Maths (or equivalent) is also a mandatory requirement
  • You would ideally have experience of teaching Functional Skills in both subjects, QTS or QTLS status and experience of teaching GCSE in either subject
  • You should be highly motivated, an excellent communicator and be able to work as part of a team
  • You must have a willingness to work with young people who will present challenging behaviours, which at times can be stressful
