We have a fantastic opportunity for a Vehicle Technician at Doncaster Council, this is a full-time Permanent role.

Salary details: Grade 8, £31,372 - £34,949 (depending on experience etc)

plus 6% shift allowance including Saturday working on rotas.

Contract Type: Full-time, 37 Hours Per Week, permanent

What is the role?

Doncaster Council are looking for a Vehicle Technician, to carry out all inspections, maintenance and repairs, on a large diverse fleet and varied Plant equipment, to ensure required/roadworthy condition and usability is maintained.

What are your responsibilities?

  • The inspection of and in-depth vehicle associated ancillaries’ repairs on cars, light commercials, and plant equipment.
  • Carry out MOT, Hackney and Private Hire tests in accordance with DVSA and Council regulations. (Training if not a MOT tester will be given)
  • Provide a responsive service enabling the Council to meet its statutory obligations, and legislative requirements set down by relative government bodies and industry professionals.
  • Work in line with all H&S regulations, risk assessments and safe working practices.
  • To diagnose vehicle defects and related issues, including use of IT based diagnostic equipment.
  • Carry out work within a realistic time, be this time either manufacturers, ICME, locally negotiated or a combination.
  • Complete all relevant statutory documentation; To support the training of apprentices and pass on necessary knowledge and skills.
  • Awareness of the motor vehicle retail industry and vehicle manufacturers’ specifications.
  • Experience of working in a Transport Workshop environment delivering reactive repairs; project work, servicing, and technical skills.
  • Experience in either a franchised dealership or major fleet operation.

What skills do you Need?

  • Must have recent experience of working as a Vehicle Technician, for a local authority or Vehicle Maintenance company.
  • Must be physically fit and healthy, as you will be working in the Workshop / Outside and may need to lift heavy items.
  • You must be Fully Qualified to issue MOTs to vehicles.
  • Excellent people skills, as you will be speaking to the public, other members of staff and managers.
  • IMI/City & Guilds or NVQ Automotive Servicing and Repair Level 3 (Light or Heavy);
  • IMI/City & Guilds Motor- Craft Part 1 & 2 or BTEC equivalent (Light or Heavy);
  • ICT Literate.
  • Full UK Driving License.
  • Full Knowledge of all Health and Safety legislations

Additional Information

  • Rotating weekly days and afters shift.
  • Days Monday - Thursday 06.00 to 14.00 (13.00 Friday)
  • Afters Monday - Thursday 12.00 to 20.00 (19.00 Friday)
  • Rostered Saturday (approx. 1 in 6) 07.00 to 15.00 with a day off in lieu the following week.  
  • Optional weekly call out (approx. 1 in 6)
