Mechanical Plant Fitter | ÂŁ22 per hour (depending on experience)
Overview:
Our client is responsible for the servicing, installation and upgrading a variety of plant equipment across the south coast. Most of the work sits within a triangle from Dorset in the west, London and along towards southern Kent in the east.
The projects range in size and scope from a few days onsite to several months. The list of current contracts is vast including several with budgets into the millions, there are also dozens of others expected to come online within the next few months. The business we’re working in partnership with have recruited several new employees in recent months and boast an exceptional retention rate.
This Mechanical Plant Fitter role offers variety daily and that will test your skills hourly. You’ve possibly learnt all you can within your current position and are now looking for a business who can offer progression within a stable environment. The position will involve working on lots of one-off projects where you’ll get exposure to mechanical systems as well as lots of pumps, generators, and general fabrication. Successful candidates haven’t been a master of all trades but at least a master of one! Typically, from either a heavy plant fitting or metalworking background.
Owing to the variety of different sites that you’ll be servicing you’ll be expected to travel and stay away if the project is further afield.

Responsibilities
As a Mechanical Plant Fitter, some of your responsibilities will include:
- Working across the south coast at various sites
- Installing new equipment, often in challenging environments
- Testing and commission post installation
- Refurbishment and upgrading of older systems
- Fabricating bespoke parts on demand (welding / sheet metal work / machining)
- Often working outside no matter what the weather (full kit provided)
- Operating hand, power tools & heavy equipment
- Preparing and finishing components
- Ensuring that your workspace is maintained
- Checking that the quality of your work is to the standard expected
- Working from drawings and job specifications on each job
- Planning travel
- Liaising with both HQ and the customer when onsite
- Completing paperwork as required
Background
Owing to the variety of skills involved in this position we’d be keen to hear from applicants with prior experience with:
- Manual machining
- Welding and Fabrication
- Plant maintenance / fitting
- Utilities fitter
You must be skilled in one of the above to be considered.
As a successful Mechanical Plant Fitter, you’ll likely be from:
- A mechanical fitting role, possible on heavy plant or agricultural equipment
- Utilities background – sewerage, water or gas
- Engineering workshop – welding & fabricating or heaving machining
- Possibly used a MIG welder to either tack or weld thick plate steel
There will be some tickets required for the role, although for the right applicant training will be provided:
- CSCS CardÂ
- IPAF is desirable but not essentialÂ
- PASMAÂ is desirable but not essential
- COSHH AwarenessÂ
