Legal Secretary - Family Department
  • Job Type: Full-time (37 hours per week)

  • Salary: Dependent on experience

We are seeking a dedicated Legal Secretary to join our Family Law Department. The role involves providing comprehensive secretarial and administrative support across various departments, ensuring efficient handling of client matters. The ideal candidate will be adaptable, professional, and compassionate towards clients, with a strong commitment to confidentiality and punctuality.

Day-to-day of the role:
  • Prepare legal documents, correspondence, and court forms through audio and copy typing using digital dictation for multiple fee earners.
  • Handle photocopying, scanning, and emailing documents as required.
  • Manage telephone communications, assist with client enquiries, and take messages.
  • Schedule appointments and manage calendars using Outlook.
  • Liaise with law firms, authorities, barrister chambers, and other third parties.
  • Maintain filing systems and records to Lexcel standards.
  • Prepare and manage outgoing mail and correspondence.
  • Provide support to other secretaries and fee earners, especially during busy periods or holidays.
  • Utilize both manual and electronic systems and procedures established by the firm to facilitate business operations efficiently and lawfully.
  • Perform other reasonable tasks as requested.
Required Skills & Qualifications:
  • Proven experience as a secretary, with experience in family law highly preferable.
  • Excellent keyboard skills and proficiency in Microsoft Office (Word, Outlook, and ideally Excel).
  • Strong command of grammar and spelling.
  • Professional demeanor in all interactions with colleagues, clients, and third parties.
  • Friendly and confident manner, polite and helpful in person and over the phone.
  • Discretion with a strong understanding of the importance of confidentiality.
  • Compassionate and patient, with the ability to manage clients’ expectations effectively.
  • Capable of multitasking and managing own workload to meet deadlines efficiently.
