Do you have a passion for supporting students with Social, Emotional, and SEMH (SEMH) needs? A local SEN school in Dorchester is seeking a committed Mental Health Teaching Assistant to join the dedicated team in providing inclusive education and pastoral care from September 2024.

Responsibilities:

  • Provide empathetic and nurturing support to students with SEMH needs, helping them to manage their emotions and develop coping strategies.
  • Assist in implementing behaviour management strategies, working collaboratively with teachers and SENCO to create and maintain a positive learning environment.
  • Offer tailored support to students both in and out of the classroom, ensuring they can access the curriculum and participate fully in school life.
  • Build trusting relationships with students, promoting their self-esteem and encouraging positive social interactions.
  • Work closely with educational psychologists, social workers, and external agencies to ensure holistic support for students with SEMH needs.
  • Track and report on student progress, contributing to reviews and assessments to support their educational and personal development.

Qualifications:

  • Experience working with students with SEMH needs in an educational or similar setting.
  • Understanding of SEMH issues and effective strategies for supporting students.
  • Patience, resilience, and a calm demeanour to manage challenging situations sensitively.
  • Excellent communication skills to liaise with students, parents/guardians, and colleagues effectively.
  • Ability to work collaboratively as part of a multidisciplinary team, contributing positively to the school community.
