Prospero Teaching are looking for specialist SEN Tutors in the Dorset area to deliver tuition on a 1:1 basis to young people with complex special educational needs (SEN) that cannot currently access mainstream education.

The Opportunity

Prospero Teaching are currently onboarding new tutors to join their team for the upcoming academic year in the Dorset area.

Whether you are looking to embark upon a full-time tutoring role outside of the classroom, or if you are simply looking to take on more hours alongside your current job role, we have students in the local area who need educational support.

On this particular occasion, the tutor will be providing 1:1 support to a Year 9 pupil in the DT6 area that is currently seeking education other than at school. The tuition will involve delivery of Maths and English and the tutor will be expected to conduct a baseline assessment to assess the student's ability and then deliver the curriculum they deem suitable.

The pupil has SEMH needs, has experienced numerous ACES, developmental trauma and has behaviour difficulties as a result.

The support will be taking place in a local library/venue on a part-time basis (7.5 hours per week).

As an SEN Tutor, you must be able to create, plan and deliver tailored lessons to bridge gaps in pupil's education and boost attainment levels. You may be an experienced teacher or have significant experience working with children in a therapeutic way to support their needs through previous SEN specialist positions.

  • Duration: ongoing until a school placement is found

Experience, Training and Qualifications of the SEND Specialist Tutor:

  • QTS or equivalent teaching qualifications is preferred
  • Demonstrated experience working with Special Educational Needs (SEN)
  • Possess UK classroom teaching experience and experience delivering tailored lesson plans
  • Be creative, patient and willing to think outside of the box
  • Have experience working with challenging behaviour and disengaged pupils

To be eligible for this role, the potential SEND Specialist Tutor must:

  • Hold the Right to Work in the UK.
  • Hold an enhanced child barred list DBS certificate registered with the online update service or be willing to process a new application.
  • Provide two professional child-related references.
